We had our 26-week ultrasound yesterday. The babies are getting nice and big. The girl (labeled "baby aa") weighs 2 pounds and the boy ("baby bb") weighs 2 pounds 4 ounces. The girl is very cooperative during her photoshoots so you can see a nice profile of her head, complete with nose and lips (facing up). The small membrane dividing the two babies is visible as a thin line just above her face. Unlike the photogenic girl, the boy refuses to keep still and never gives the ultrasound technician a good glimpse of his face. In the picture his head is crammed into his chest, giving the impression that he lacks a neck and chin. You have to trust us that the rest of the ultrasound shows this isn't the case. But I've got to say, he looks incredibly uncomfortable. The good news is that they're both rowing well and are both head-down, which is good for birth. The only downside of this position is that it puts my stomach squarely in both babies' kicking zone.
Barry and I survived our second twins class. This week we learned about labor. Specifically we learned that it is scary and messy and that neither of us wants to think about it for a while longer. Barry has agreed to practice not fainting. Luckily our doctor doesn't see any signs of pre-term labor so we've got a while to get used to the idea. In the meantime, the babies are very active, kicking around the clock. And we're one week into the kitchen renovation. The race is on between the baby arrival and kitchen completion. We really hope the kitchen wins.
